Louis Catorze hasn’t been eating much lately. In fact, after initially leaping onto his wet food and devouring it like a starving savage, he’s now only moderately keen when I dish up. He’s the same with his Orijen too: he’ll tuck in eventually, but there’s a definite reluctance.

One morning, he lapped up a couple of mouthfuls of the juice from his wet food, then left it. I offered him dry food, which he refused. Overcome by complete blind panic, I then dished up, erm, a plateful of prosciutto from the organic shop, and he chugged down the lot.

Cats aren’t supposed to have large quantities of prosciutto. I know this. But I would happily have let him eat however much he wanted, if it meant that the little sod were eating something. Something is better than nothing, non? However, the bigger problem is that I have now painted myself into a corner and the bastard cat wants organic prosciutto all the time.

I should have seen this coming, shouldn’t I?

Cat Daddy, without looking up from his phone: “You created this. You need to fix it.”

“Feed moi. No, not THAT. I want organic prosciutto.”

“Something is better than nothing non ?” YES ! When my Oscar was winding down from ckd and of coure would not touch the prescription food, the vet said to feed him whatever he would eat (Temptations, which are nutritious ) She emphasized that keeping the ct eating is the MOST important. I suppose prosciutto is a bit salty, so maybe you could try thinly sliced roast beef instead.

I can hear Cat Daddy’s voice saying, “THINLY-SLICED ROAST BEEF?” 🤣🤣🤣

Ramses is one of those cats that grows tired (quickly) of the same flavor – which is why I rotate different cans of wet food for him. Brandon? He’s an eating machine. LOL
Secondly, cats (not unlike humans) sometimes lose their sense of smell as they age. Instead of giving him human food you might try drizzling a bit of tuna juice over the top of his food – if he likes canned tuna.

He has wet food already, which smells really strong. Stinks, in fact. So he should be able to smell his wet food, if not his dry? 🤷‍♀️

Take heart. You can alternate giving him organic prosciutto with offering him organic salmon 😺 .

What surprises me is that you seem surprised by Le Roi’s excellent taste for the best quality ingredients. He just knows what’s best and requires it, it’s perfectly normal for a Roi 🙂

Also, I saw the movie Flow, yesterday, and if you want to know what noises Rosie makes, she makes the same squeaks as the cat in that movie!

It seems like le roi’s palate is expanding. I remember there was a time when the only ham he liked was the finest jambon de Bayonne. Now that Louis is trying out new tastes, it’s your job to procure more options worthy of a king. Caviar, perhaps?

Canned mackarel worked for my cats when they tired of their usual menu. (The smell 😝😖🤢 made a great appetite suppresant for me!) I also had success with a light sprinkle of bacon bits mixed into wet food.

Did they eat the fish or just the juice?

All of it. Also the skin and juice of rotisserie chicken when I would buy it (They rarely ate the chicken itself, though)
