Je crie, donc je suis

I have recently taken to sleeping in the back bedroom because it’s much quieter, with less aeroplane noise, and the mattress is more supportive on my bad back. However, during the visit from Louis Catorze’s human cousins, for various reasons, we all did a massive bed switcheroo and I slept in the main front bedroom for three nights.

The first thing I learned from the bed switcheroo was that I was right to swap rooms the first time; the back bedroom really is much better. The second thing I learned was that poor old Catorze finds the (higher) front room bed quite a challenge.

His difficulty wasn’t in jumping up, but jumping down. Even when I wasn’t watching him do it, I could tell from the sound of his feet hitting the floor that it was problematic. I also heard skidding afterwards, indicating that the landing perhaps wasn’t as controlled as desired.

No, I won’t be investing in one of those cat stepladder things (yet), because I simply don’t sleep in the higher bed often enough to make it worthwhile. But I still looked, just for fun. And I’m quite astounded at the huge range of styles and prices available, ranging from £9.66 for two steps hewn from a basic wedge, to £109.99 for a fancy spiral stair version.

Right- AND left-facing? Ooh.
Temu has, quite literally, thousands of these. I chose this screen shot because of the wind-in-the-hair dachshund.
This company sponsor our football team. Until today I had no idea what they even did, so I have learned something today.

Don’t worry, Catorze. We’ll be keeping an eye on your creaky old body, and making sure you have whatever you need, as soon as you need it.

Lazy boy.

I’ll have to keep those in mind, too. They’re pretty cool.

Don’t fall for the staircases! We have purchased more than one over the years. Has anyone ever used them? No, no they have not.

Oh no, really? I hadn’t even entertained that as an option! I’d just assumed that creaky old bodies would be grateful for them. Cheeky sods!

Steps are nice. When Benji became a tripawed, I got steps to his perch, and also to the bed. He appreciates very much. When Tiger was with us (may he rest in peace), he also used them. 😺

I know that Cat Daddy will say no, so I might have to, erm, get them anyway. 🤫

We knew Benji needed it, as a tripawd, he could no longer jump high enough to get to his special places. I was happy when Tiger used them, too, as an old cat with arthritis.

Yes it is possible for a cat to get hurt by falling clumsily, so you are right to be (a bit) worried about the old boy. But one of my oldsters just came in to the bedroom across the hall coat rack,, onto he top of the door, then onto the TV before stepping on to the bed. She used to do that all the time but I haven’t seen her do it for quote awhile.t

It’s hilarious when they find weird and illogical routes to things!

I’m glad to hear the back bedroom is a room that suits you perfectly. Spending good nights is very important to avoid e.g. writing foot instead of food and not seeing it 🦆

You can also make something yourself like what I did when my Calinette became blind: https://cestpasmoijeljure.com/2020/01/05/les-ptits-defis-du-dimanche-soir-18/

You probably shouldn’t let him know you’re looking. He’ll talk you into the ultra-plush ones and then ignore them.

I haven’t told him. Let’s hope he doesn’t figure out my phone password.
