Le dieu de l’âge de pierre

Every year, thousands of people gather at Stonehenge in Wiltshire for sunrise on the shortest day of the year. 

This year, a very special guest joined them:

Oui, Mesdames et Messieurs, one of the revellers brought their cat with them. Or maybe it just randomly turned up. Both options are hilarious, although the latter would be funnier. 

Naturellement, everyone forgot about the sunrise and the ancient mysticism, choosing, instead, to cuddle and photograph the cat. And he (I would bet my house on it being a male) lapped up every second. In fact, he probably thought that all the people were gathered there just for him. 

The good people at Gloucestershire* Live  have hailed this as “a great omen for 2026”. Erm, have they ever met a black cat? Or do I have the only evil one in the whole world? 

“What a year this is going to be!” Right.

*Americans: it’s pronounced “GLOSS-ter-sherr”.

      Depends where you are. It differs between the east and the west although I never know which is meant to be which!

    I find it way more logical to worship a cat than a bunch of stones! Also, I have only had female black cats and trust me, they are no less evil… errrr… funny and cute I mean, than black males 🙂

      I assumed this to be a male partly because of his size – he’s quite meaty. But then all cats are, compared to Catorze!

    The video on my Facebook feed said the cat’s name was Moon. I was a bit surprised at how captivated by the cat the crowd was, considering that Stonehenge at the Winter Solstice should be a pretty serious gathering of believers.

    The Chat Noir sits calmly above the fray, watching humans stumbling about below.
    Living not far from Gloucester Massachusetts, you’ll often hear old timers pronounce it usually with the R dropped: “Gloss-tah”

        I think there’s bound to be issues for my fellow countrymen when they ask for directions to Leicester, Massachusetts, more than the former. We have multiples of towns on the East Coast named Gloucester.

    As I had to look after two grandchildren of mine, I didn’t see this post. Thank you for sharing this piece of news with us. Now, let’s hope 2026 doesn’t turn out to be a new « Annus horribilis » after this « great omen » 😺.
