If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Despite playing dumb, our cat understands plenty. WE are the ones who need help in understanding HIS stupid shit.

Cat Daddy and I don’t often have baths, because we much prefer showers. Yet, when I do have a bath, I have to wash it down prior to using it because it’s all bitty and hairy. A bathtub which is only ever used once every three weeks at the most, and which is cleaned weekly whether it’s used or not, shouldn’t be bitty and hairy, right?

I then realised that the hairs weren’t human hairs. Louis Catorze had been gadding about IN THE BATHTUB.

  1. Why? It’s such a strange thing to do, especially as he has a zillion more comfortable places to be.
  2. What does he do in there? Does he just go to sleep, or does he slide around like a teenager in a skate park?
  3. When? He is always either with us or outside … unless he only goes into the bathtub when we’re not home, and jumps out again when we return (which is REALLY strange, yet probably still wouldn’t be the strangest thing about him)?

Catorze is the only one who could make this make sense, if he wanted to. However, he doesn’t.

An old photo of more bathroom misadventures. Here, he was getting high on the bleach after the bathroom had been cleaned.

I have had cats catch a mouse and let it loose in the bathtub to run around hysterically til the mouse keeled over or I intervened. A couple times I tossed a jingle ball in there too and much hilarity ensued.

I must try one of those (probably the second one) to see what happens!

I guess the bathtub thing is something that cats understand. Occasionally my cat Tish jumps on the edge of the bathtub and then into it. I never wait to see what it is she does in the tub but later I see her sitting for a while on the edge and then just leaving. If she and Louis got together they could do a cat dance in the tub. LOL

It’s not really the season to retreat to the tub because it’s cooler than anything else. Our resident black cat, Onyx, also likes the tub. But she prefers the pole the curtain is attached to or the partial wall at one end. She never wants to get wet.

It’s not really the season here, either. And yet here we are!

Both Ramses and Brandon both love cavorting in the tub – sometimes both at once.

Of course they do! Just like when Le Roi poses beautifully, looking like a supermodel cat, and then either gurns or runs off when I take my phone out.

Sabrina likes the tub. We find her paw prints in it all the time.

How do you know they are her prints and not her brother’s?

We catch her, not him, in the bath tub.

Maybe it’s one of those middle of the night things that he does. Frankie likes to get an hour bathtub but I’m usually in the bathroom when he does it. When I run the water before I take a shower he has to peek inside to see what’s happening. Of course he would never get in there while the shower is running.

What does Frankie do in there? Does he sleep or gad about?

I don’t know what he does. He’s behind the curtain like The Wizard of Oz.

Sweet Amber was also quite fond of our bathtub. Not getting a bath—that she would’ve hated. She just liked to hop into the dry tub from time to time.

Aww, Amber. What did she do in there?

Not sure. She would hop in there very daintily, putter-patter about, and then jump out.

I think they like the echo-chamber sensation of it.

Oh dear. The last thing we want is amplification or echoing of Catorzian noises.

Most of our cats were accustomed to going into our bathtub and Timon doesn’t break with this habit. He likes drinking water there. Who knows? Perhaps the taste of it is superior to any inside known water.

Ours rarely has traces of water in it. So what’s Catorze’s excuse? 🤔

Actually, we are asked to open the tap and as good slaves, we obey 😺.

This reminds me of Mr. Bowie… He was the reason I stopped having baths because he jumped in to the bath while the water was running… I still prefer having a shower.

Maybe he invites his friends over for a nice soak. I had a cat that liked to lay in the tub or on the bathroom tile when it was the weather was hot. It must have felt cool.

The hot weather makes absolute sense. However, Sa Maj does this in the winter too. 🤷‍♀️

We had a railing on one side of the stairs to the door because we would get a lot of snow and ice back then.
