Je crie, donc je suis

I have a cold, and it’s the awful kind that keeps you awake at night with the sweats and the dribbles (sorry if this is too much information). If you know anyone who has ever worked in a school, you will know that it’s practically the law for staff to fall ill during the school holidays. Nobody knows why this is. It just is.

I was too ill to go to the football yesterday evening, but quite looking forward to the consolation prize of watching the game on television with Louis Catorze on my lap. My social media is often filled with pictures of cats snuggling up to their sick humans, and there’s even one super-cute TikTok cat who brings treats to his ailing mamma and gazes at her with wide-eyed concern.

However, Catorze is a terrible nursemaid and couldn’t give a merde. He has mild-to-moderate contempt for sick people and absolutely zero tolerance for colds; if anyone sneezes, he gives an audible scowl of disapproval and runs away, muttering obscenities under his breath as he goes.

I WhatsApped my sister that afternoon to complain about the lack of Catorzian compassion. She reminded me of the time in 2016 when she came to visit, and we were out when she arrived so we’d left her a key. At the time she had the most horrendous chest infection and wasn’t capable of much more than flopping on the sofa, coughing and coughing, as she waited for us.

And look who kept her company:

“Aww, tu es malade?”
“Allow moi to snuggle toi better!”

So either old age has rid of him of any empathy/patience, or he just hates me, or maybe a bit of each.

Bastard cat.

I do hope you will recover quickly. As to Louis « muttering obscenities under his breath » I’m afraid but isn’t Cat Daddy who is used to setting him a bad example? And concerning your sister, rather than keep her company, don’t you think Louis was keeping a close eye on her to prevent her doing something silly? [ I’m pulling your leg to comfort you]

Cat Daddy uses English obscenities. Catorze’s are no language that anyone understands. 🤣🤣🤣

Ooih nnasty and very inconvenient for you. All 3 of my girls would battle through anything to be in school, forever fearful of falling behind and struggling to catch up and bless them immediately off school they would succumb to cold, flu, ear infection, tonsillitis, chest infection, you name it they had it, they would then get better just in time to go back to school having passed on an infection to me and I would end up in agony but have to get up and do the school run because we lived in the middle of nowhere, country lanes and no paths culminating in the road outside school which was a main road where even the lollipop lady used to be in danger of being knocked down! But once I got home and died until home time on the sofa I had 3 adoring dogs who would be on the sofa snuggling/smothering me. One teeny one a jack russel crossed with a yorkie, one a little whippet crossed with a jack russel and the most attentive one of all, wanting to be on me keeping me warm, which was a 46kg German shepherd with a cross between a short fur and long fur as well as possessing at least two dog’s worth of fur so I would be suffocated and squashed him being the same length as me plus having the other two females fighting over me…. Be thankful you can rest and suffer your ailment at your own pace!!! Oh and once I struggled out from under my pikes of fur they would all leap up and run to the door demanding to be walked round the 100 acres of woodland we lived on the edge of!! Wish you better my dear, I was so shocked to have just a cold some weeks ago, in jabbed with everything pneumonia, fly, covid and I don’t think I’ve ever before only had a cold, 3 days of yuck and off it went!! Amazing! And this Easter has been my first xocus free in 2 years! Wooohooo!! Subsequently I’ve driven almost 800 miles not home yet and have loved everything of the freedom!! Get well soon and long before you go back to school!!!

Get well soon, my friend! I’m sure Louis will take good care of you.
Btw, I recently bought a subscription to a sport channel and now I can watch the Premier League too. It’s interesting because of all the Belgian football players scattered over different teams. It looks like it’s going to be very exciting…

Ooh, so you’ll be able to follow our team, too! Brentford are one of the less sexy clubs with a smaller following. Liverpool and Manchester City we ain’t! Do you also get to see EFL games? If so, you’ll be able to watch Catorze’s team, Sunderland, aka The Black Cats!

Brentford…?? Ok, that’s my team from now on… 😉 I’m always a supporter for underdogs and teams you don’t expect to win. I’m not a fan of top teams but I’ll admit I like to see Kevin De Bruyne play.
Did you watch the game England against Belgium last week? I loved the new Belgian outfit inspired by Tintin.
I don’t think we can watch the EFL competition. I’ll check it out…

That’s hilarious because we thought the kit was awful! We couldn’t understand why someone had put sky blue with brown, but at least that explains it? (Doesn’t mean they should have done it, though!)

Well, it looks kinda… special… I’m not a fan of the colour ‘brown’ myself but I just liked the link with Tintin.

I absolutely cannot abide brown. At a push I’ll buy brown shoes because they go with blue jeans, but brown clothing: no. And it’s definitely not a colour for sports kit!

This is the only shirt which I think might be worse than our brown kit: https://rapidathletic.co.uk/shop/club-football/english-premier-league-merchandise/leeds-united-club-shop-uk/adidas-leeds-united-2023-24-mens-third-shirt/?attribute_pa_size-mens=large&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr87QwaCohQMVhpxQBh24LQShEAQYAyABEgLp2PD_BwE

Oh no… that’s plain awful! I never liked those modern graffiti like looking shirts. I prefer traditional old fashioned outfits for a football team.
Dito. The only brown thing I wear are shoes, occasionally. I only wear black and gray.

I don’t mind a modern take on things but it shouldn’t look messy, which this does! West Bromwich Albion traditionally have blue and white stripes, and a few years ago they did this, which I thought was quite clever: https://wbareport.news.blog/2020/07/23/west-bromwich-albion-home-kit-20-21-our-thoughts/

And Bournemouth, who wear black and red stripes, did this: https://www.uksoccershop.com/p-322811/bournemouth-2022-23-home-shirt-sponsorless-xl.html?currency=GBP&gcountry=UK&ovId=3424&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3674ibeohQMVfZJQBh1IOwPaEAQYAyABEgLoFvD_BwE

Don’t you think that those sports outfits are always so ridiculous expensive? In fact, you’re a walking advertisement… it should be much cheaper.

They are crazy-expensive. And football clubs know they’re onto a winner, introducing the main shirt, the second shirt and the third shirt! Brentford renew their shirts every two seasons rather than every season, because they know that our demographic doesn’t have endless pots of money.

Actually, that’s not a bad strategy for deterring would-be thieves. They clearly aren’t going to get up once they’re TUC.

My first cat was excellent at keeping me company when I was sick. The ones I have now really don’t like the inconvenience.
