If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?

Can you ban a word from the English language even if it wasn’t a proper word in the first place? If so, “nother” needs to go. It’s just silly.

An example of that non-word in a context that we cat freaks will understand, is as follows:

“When I brushed my cat, so much fur came out that I could make a whole nother cat with it.”

Non, non and thrice non. Even Louis Catorze isn’t happy about this:

Not impressed.

If you have ever used “nother” other than to criticise it and to demonstrate what an absurd non-word it is, I’m afraid we cannot be friends.

However, if you have ever made new cats from the offcuts (offbrushes?) of your actual cats, please show them to me.

This cat will be much less bother than Catorze.

My cats are very resistant to brushing, so I have never been able to attempt to make a whole other cat from the fuzzies.

Oh dear! Le Roi used to dislike it, too, but then Oscar the dog gave him a Zoom Groom for his 10th birthday and he loves that!

I guess I heard people say that but it didn’t register. I thought my hearing didn’t hear the first syllable. Now I’m not sure. It’s without the “a” it’s not a word!

He looks very kittenish here, doesn’t he? But don’t be fooled. He’s evil!

When my husband brushes our Newfoundland dog, there is a pile of hair at least the size of a cat as a result. Maybe two cats. I know some people use Newf hair for knitting projects, but I’m not a knitter.

Incorporating dog, and maybe cat, hair into knitted garments. It’s a thing, apparently.

I can understand little trinkets and things. Not that I would want one, but I understand that there are people out there who would. But … clothing?

I can see a memorial sweater or scarf, with hair from a deceased dog.
Interestingly, the indigenous people of Canada’s west coast (where I live) had “wool dogs,” a special breed kept separate from other dogs and raised for their hair, which was used to make garments. The breed died out after sheep were introduced by European colonizers, but there is still a strong tradition of knitting in indigenous communities. The patterns they used have been adopted by other knitters. I have a sweater made by my mother in law of a type we used to call “Indian sweaters.” No dog wool in it, though. 🙂

Oh, I know of this trend! Grammy Cat gave us a book all about knitting with cat fur a few years back. If only we knew how to knit, we could probably have a whole new set of sweaters, given the sheer quantity of fur our household produces.

So far, I hadn’t met the word « nother » yet. Therefore, thank you for introducing it to me. I have never made any cat effigy from the offbrushes of a cat either. Our current cat is not really keen on being brushed, but who knows, he can still change his mind about it.

Hiw astrange, I can’t say that I e ever heard this word, in my mind I would think I would say ‘I could make another…’or’ a whole other cat’ and if you want me to tell you about stupid things say or put in when writing I would have a never ending supply of words repeatable or u repeatable!! For me it’s punctuation that’s Very annoying but then I notice that these days I really CBA to punctuate as I mainly uaw my phone to type and it’s hard enough to stop spell check altering what I type let alone fight with it to leave punctuation where I put it, my top subject was English language and literature so my grammar is old school and my punctuation WAS old school but typing on a phone, especially if I can’t find my glasses, is so so hard that I try not to bother with punctuation as I forget where I started and where I’m heading so there’s nothing to construct!! I find reading any news article online is thwart with outbursts of anger as there is no such thing as editing, spelling or grammar by ‘journalists’. They can’t even say what they mean it to say, completely altering their own mumbo jumbo with the wrong words altogether, they them they’re, you you’ve your you’re blah blah blah and there’s no differentiation between The Times to The Sun… Although a true football fan, especially Liverpool, would not follow any click bait the Sun has to offer!

It tends to be people from one particular country who use “nother”. I shan’t say which one. 🇺🇸

Oh trumpington… Scared of their latest election news 😱

Saw the posts about knitting with animals fur. I adore alpacas and went to visit a farm, then an attraction where they used their wool for garments. Alpacas are sheared like sheep and then it is spun the same as wool yarn is made. I was very interested in a fantastic child’s cardigan, which had a design depicting the farm on which they lived. It was soooo soft and had a special in built ability to allow rain water to run off it. I was intent on buying the tiny cardigan for my only grandchild at the time and nearly died of shock at the price!!! I could have run my car on diesel many many miles for the same price!! So even if I could afford it, I would have felt stupid to buy it when I’m a crafter and could make so many cardigans, probably a different one for each size as my granddaughter grew to an adult and beyond!! The also sold the yarn… Absolutely ridiculous. There are people who can spin their own yarn, so it’s easy for them to knit up an item of clothing. If you think of the beautiful ‘angora’ garments of the past, especially the movie stars would wear amazingly pretty boleros and things, so soft and complimenting the soft nature of the old fashioned photographs. Angora is yarn made from rabbit fur so it’s not that big a step to use cat fur. And of course you don’t sit with knitting needles feeding straggly dirty bits of fur from grooming, you put it through a process to create the yarn, just in case you feel tempted to brush Louis and try to knit up a dusty, rolled in the garden and other less clean places, ball of fluff straight from his hair brush, or even his poor body 🤣🤣🤣 Merlot has long fur, Theo has long fur, maybe I could try it 🤣 just think if you were wearing something and sat on a train beside someone who was allergic to cats… It could cause a cat-arse-trophy 🤣🤣🤣 I’m so chuffed with that word I just invented!! You could wear Louis winking rear eye fur 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
