What are your two favourite things to wear?

A thick jumper and a fluffy blanket. I’m not joking.

This is something of a middle-class problem, but the under-floor heating in our kitchen has broken and the place is freezing. Cat Daddy and I prepare meals at lightning speed and then race into the living room – which is deliciously toasty-warm – to eat them.

So, naturellement, Louis Catorze has decided that now is the time to barge into the living room whilst we’re defrosting our frozen extremities, leaving the door wide open and letting the heat escape. And he doesn’t just do this once or twice. Over the course of an evening he does this maybe ten times? Possibly more? Who knows? The thought of counting the incidents is the only thing more annoying the the incidents themselves.

Sometimes Catorze will even open the living room door to let himself out, CHANGE HIS MIND ABOUT GOING OUT, then come and sit back down with us, leaving the door open. So one of us – usually me – has to close it again. I have had to make sure one of Catorze’s stick toys is always at hand, so that I can lean over and use it to close the door without leaving the sofa. The little sod HAS to be doing this on purpose. Since cats know how to open doors, it can’t be THAT hard for them to close them afterwards?

Chris the heating engineer will be coming to fix things today. Will Catorze leave him alone and let him get on with it … or will it be another one of those times when his interference causes a two-hour job to last several days?

Off you go into your nice, warm igloo. Don’t mind us.

Nothing worse than being cold indoors and speaking of which I live in an 8 year old purpose built residential scheme, piped heating and hot water throughout. The wind last night and again tonight is coming directly from the west, therefore straight onto my double glazed windows and I’m sitting freezing because I cannot stand the heating on in every room because it’s stifling and causes headaches and sinus pain, and the wind is actually squealing so loudly through the non closeable air vents that the mere sound sends shivers down my spine and the draft is enough to keep the hallway radiator heat out of the room! So blurgh to aching limbs, tired eyes and general malaise and thanks for all the noise of the wind to drive me up the wall. Have you actually tried telling him to shut the door? I’ve seen cats and dogs do it in videos and I had a dog who would open doors for me if I asked because my hands were full… Although it shocked my socks off the first time I asked and he jumped on his hind legs, put 2 paws on top of the back door handle and politely stepped backwards giving me the space to get outside with the rubbish and put it in the bin! He had been our dog since he was a tiny 9 weeks old and neither of us had ever taught him. Makes you believe they’ve definitely been here before, understanding what is being asked and kindly doing it! But then dear Louis was used to having all doors opened and closed for him so maybe you should be grateful that he does at least open them by himself!!

But he manages to shut himself in places and then requires rescuing. Oh yes, he can shut doors then.

He has a fur coat. So sad that the domestic help does not. Well, Rank Hath Its Privileges.

Oh dear ! We can sympathize, but we also sometimes have cats for extra covers. A couple of the indoor-outdoor ones have discovered the feline joy of standing at the back door trying to make up their minds where they want to spend the night…

My sympathies on a cold kitchen. I’m sure Louis is trying to help. Maybe…

I’m pretty sure he is trying to do the exact opposite!

I do hope the heating engineer managed to fix things despite or thanks to Louis.
Had Chris already met Louis? Being helped by such a nice co-worker must be a great experience, mustn’t it?

I think they have met before, yes. Sa Maj always takes the trouble to greet tradesmen personally.

Looking at that picture, I can’t help but think that Louis-Catorze is a magnificient overlord. Maybe not magnaminous, but magnificient definitely !

Louis says you need to grow a fur coat. Then you wouldn’t be cold all the time. 🙂

I’ve not been for a leg wax for ages, so I have fur trousers!
