Je crie, donc je suis

If you had to give one life-changing tip, what would it be?

If you have a cat, don’t bother trying to have professional Zoom meetings in your house. Seriously, just go to someone else’s house to do them. Or hot-desk somewhere. Or sit in your car. Anywhere but your house.

Remember when Louis Catorze used to be a complete and utter pest during Zoom calls? Yup, so do we. And, regretfully, so does he, because he’s still doing it.

Luckily I hardly ever have to teach online lessons and, when I do, I do so from school and not from home. However, Cat Daddy, being on the board of trustees for a local business, has had quite a few video calls. On one occasion, I even heard him say, “Sorry, that’s my cat. I thought I’d shut him out but he’s barged into the room.”

In short, Catorze cannot be left unsupervised during Zoom calls. And, since Cat Daddy tends to be the one doing them, that means I am the one shut in a room with Catorze and responsible for making sure he doesn’t escape.

When the last call took place, the little sod was nowhere to be found so there was no way of imprisoning him. However, minutes later, as I sat in the front room, I heard him in the kitchen, emitting the horrible, scowly rasp, that he does when someone grabs him unexpectedly. (Don’t worry, he’s not upset or in pain or anything like that; he’s just being dramatic. He once did it when I was applying his thyroid meds, and Cat Daddy shouted, “You liar! Don’t you DARE pretend that it hurt!”)

Cat Daddy then marched into the room, dumped Catorze onto my lap with one hand, then marched out again. It transpired that, despite being absent pre-call, Catorze had appeared as soon as it started, being his usual self and annoying the merde out of everyone listening.

Just as he started to settle on my lap, a fly shot out of his fur. I picked up a nearby envelope, swatted it and watched it fall to the floor.

Catorze then jumped off my lap, sniffed the fly and ate it.

It’s just non-stop glamour and sophistication here at Le Château, isn’t it? The phrase “You couldn’t make this up” was INVENTED for us.

Hopefully the Zoom participants didn’t have this view.

My cat Sasha loves flies. She loves most bugs. We give all the indoor ones to her to dispose of.

What’s her catch rate? Catorze’s isn’t brilliant but we commend his effort!

She sounds brilliant! Is she a destroyer of Zoom calls too?

As I got retired in 2011, I never had to undergo such an ordeal but thank you for all your pieces of advice and the great picture that illustrates today’s post. 😺

Honestly, Le Roi is horrific during Zoom calls. It’s like nothing on earth.

I know but it’s just an additional proof that Louis is an outstanding cat.

My students and colleagues are used to seeing Rosie walk around my computer when we have a zoom call. She’s hiding most of the time, but as soon as she hears voices, she arrives, la la la, mine de rien as we say in French, and reminds everyone how beautiful she is 🙂 Louis is doing the same thing, he needs the whole world to know how beautiful and smart he is 🙂

Aww! Does Rosie speak to the other people on the call?

No, sadly she just walks back and forth in front of the camera. I wish she’d talk, it’d be funny 🙂

Noooo, good grief, you definitely do not wish that.

At least Catorze only bothers with Zoom calls. Back when we had a cordless phone, one of mine would hiss and growl loudly whenever I put someone on speaker or if I played messages. If he heard it ring when we weren’t in the room, he would knock the receiver off the cradle. He was a Bombay, not fat but heavy and strong.I used to call him my baby elephant 😸

Both Apollo and Neo occasionally make themselves known on Zoom calls. When they do not do so, many of my colleagues are deeply disappointed.

Louis feels you should appreciate him doing “pest control.” 🙂

He’s a bigger pest than the flies, though.

I met many cats on Zoom during Covid. There were some interesting antics during the piano lessons I was delivering.

Oh my, I can just imagine! 🤣🤣🤣 Did any of them walk up and down the keys (and sound better than the students)?

One played with a tinkling ball, rolling it all round the room, as counterpoint!

Yup, Louis Catorze did this during an online staff meeting. I didn’t even know that we had such a ball, but he’d hidden it under the sofa and saved it for that very purpose.
