Je crie, donc je suis

This handsome chap was my mum’s gardening buddy at the weekend. No, he is not her cat.

Astronomical spring arrived at the end of last week, and the Spring Zing really is a thing because Louis Catorze has been absolutely insufferable.

The little sod has been sleeping in a freezer bag (I KNOW) by day, then doing frenzied parkour, with vocal accompaniment, all over my bed at night. I’m starting to wonder whether the bag is secretly one of those infra-red regenerating saunas, powering him up for his nightly shenanigans. If so, I wish I knew how to inactivate it, but it seems to run from the same inexhaustible power supply as his Cloak of Invisibility.

The freezer bag, with a bin liner nest to cushion la personne royale.

The rest of our family cats have also discovered their own individual ways of marking the new season (although none are quite as weird as sleeping in a freezer bag).

Otis and Roux love being outside, even in the depths of winter, so they couldn’t be more delighted that spring is here, granting them an extension to their usual nightly curfew. Otis likes relaxing in the gentle rays of spring sunshine, whilst his troublemaking sister watches him from afar, wondering whether to attack him now or later.

She chose later.

Zelva, erm, hasn’t even noticed that it’s spring. You’ll find her indoors, lounging on a bed or sofa:

Comfy, Zelva?

Mothra also hasn’t noticed that it’s spring, due to still being in solitary, and has mostly been wriggling out of her Cône. So she’ll be remaining in supervised solitary until she can learn to behave or until the vet says Le Cône can come off, whichever comes first.

Still Côned, unless she can successfully escape from it (again).

Rodan may or may not be aware that it’s spring but his focus has been on trying to fraternise with his sister, rather than on what’s going on outdoors. When not breaking the rules, he has been getting acquainted with his new favourite place:

I’d subscribe to this channel.

I hope that your furry overlords are all enjoying the new season. I’d love to hear about what they’ve been doing.

Matilda, who lives on the other side of the park, is getting her spring on.

My cats don’t go outside but I slide the door open and they smelled through the screen door. It was good. They were hoping a chipmunk would come and say hello but no luck!

A chipmunk! Are they abundant where you live?

Very! Almost as many as squirrels but smaller and cuter.

Sorry but I would laugh so much if one got into your house. (SORRY.)

Oh, one has. When we had Jake (our last indoor-outdoor cat) he brought one in. I had to catch it and return it to the great outdoors. It was relatively easy as it was scared and shocked but not hurt. I threw a towel over it and escorted it out.

I wish I could have seen that! Cocoa the babysit cat once cornered a squirrel in his living room, but I’m not sure if he brought it in or if it came in through a window.

Vocal accompaniment is really unbearable and the idea of freezer bags being infra-red regenerating saunas is just frightening. Fortunately, there are great pictures. For instance, the first one is remarkable thanks to your mum’s gardening buddy’s expression and the one showing Poor Côned Mothra being cuddled is reassuring 😺.

Oh, the vocal accompaniment was horrific, just awful.

Plum pudding has mostly been escaping whenever I open the door. Fortunately he doesn’t know what to do once he’s out there, so I can usually catch him!

The cat’s name is Plum Pudding? What a magnificent name! Are Plum and Pudding his first name and surname? Or first name and middle name, with Walters being his surname?

His full name is ‘Plum Pudding Model of the Atom’. Named by my science-loving son. 😆

If you know your Physics, the ‘Plum Pudding’ model of the atom is not even correct, which my other kids find very annoying. Who manes their cat after an incorrect theory?! 😆

I will have to ask my students about it!

Your cats all look happy. The ones here have been staking out the good sun spots. With the human boys gone, they appear to be overwhelmed with options.

Aww, the sun spots! Are your gang allowed out, or are they indoor cats?

We have many raptors in the area and a major road, so they are safer inside. We do have a lot of windows.

Yesterday was warm and pleasant and this morning there were snow flurries. so my two outsiders were skeptical.

Snow flurries? I thought all that malarkey was over and done with? 😱

Zelva looks more like she’s preparing to hibernate for the winter than waking up for the spring. 😁

Would you believe she doesn’t actually overeat? She just doesn’t move at all. She probably averages 16 steps a day, and that’s counting one step per paw.
