We have managed to solve the long-standing mystery of how Louis Catorze manages to come indoors with a parchment-dry body and a dripping wet tail.

As well as drinking from his water glass, Catorze drinks from the rainwater that pools on our outdoor table. This makes it impossible to answer when the vet asks us whether he’s drinking normally, but we can’t do much to stop it, so tant pis. However, when sitting down for a drink in his outdoor bar, he perches on the slightly drier Caithness flagstone place mat things but trails his tail across the table top where most of the water collects:

Yuck.

Tucking his tail around his arse would have helped to keep him dry but, for whatever reason, he didn’t want to do that. None of us can understand the appeal of having any part of one’s body trailing in cold water, but that’s Catorze for you.

Anyway, that’s one Roi Mystery solved. Only 98,311 to go.

Speaking of mysteries: why DOES he love the rain so much?

It’s been a dry September, so we enjoyed the rainy video.

Catorze may be keeping his tail moist as the equivalent of wearing a damp cltoh around your neck on a hot day.

I’m not sure he’d be that clever, but you never know …

We had some rain yesterday and Ramses was going ape-shite. Of course, I wouldn’t let him out nor join him in the Concrete Jungle because…well…I wanted to stay dry. I also wanted HIM to stay dry and not track crap into the house. But all the smells were heavenly and I’m sure Ramses was privy to more enticing smells that I was.

So he likes the rain too? Must be a royalty thing, pharaohs and Sun Kings and the like!

I feel a bit silly too. Writing « congratulations on solving that Roi Mystery » would have looked less silly, wouldn’t it?.

I love the rain, too 🙂 And I am used to getting soaked since I can’t carry an umbrella and I never let people carry umbrellas over my head (https://cestpasmoijeljure.com/2017/05/28/entre-les-gouttes-se-glisser/) so I guess Le Roi et moi would get along beautifully (unsurprisingly) 🙂

Is it possible he doesn’t know that his tail is wet? If his fur is thick enough, perhaps the water doesn’t reach his skin. Darth Vader once draped his tail over a lit stove burner and did not react at all. I forcibly removed him as soon as I smelled that unspeakably horrid smell of burning hair. Darth? No reaction, no thanks, no nothing.

It was during his younger years. I’d like to say he learned his lesson, but I honestly think he somehow blissfully ignored the entire event. He may have been puzzled as to why there was a slightly shorter patch of fur on his tail for several weeks.

I’ve heard of long-haired cats’ fur singeing unnoticed, but not short-haired cats’ fur.
