We have a new Prime Minister and a new government. They are by no means flawless, but we were at such a low that we would have happily accepted anyone. (Well, maybe not Donald Trump or Nigel Farage. Or Marine Le Pen. Anyone but those three.)

One of the perks of being Prime Minister is the chance to share a house with Larry the cat. Larry has lived at 10, Downing Street since 2011 and is the one constant through a succession of Prime Ministers, each more shit than the last.

“Things can only get better, right?” Spoiler alert: they didn’t. (Picture from standard.co.uk)

Larry’s new Cat Daddy, Keir Starmer, is a cat person … but he already has a cat. He’s called Jojo and, apparently, he’s treated like royalty in the Starmer household, which is exactly as it should be. But how will he feel about sharing his Château?

In the old days, if you wanted two cats to live together, you would just put them together and hope for the best. Sometimes it worked out, sometimes it didn’t. And, if it didn’t, people would just live with scrapping cats and not give it much thought.

Relations with Palmerston the Foreign and Commonwealth Office cat were somewhat mixed. (Photo from standard.co.uk.)

However, these days there’s an actual PROCESS when introducing two cats with a view to them living together and managing conflict. According to Feliway – who, let’s face it, ought to know a thing or two about making angsty cats calm the heck down – this includes scent swapping, safe places to escape drama, and, erm, “serenity massages”.

What’s that? You don’t believe me about the massages? Look here.

Will Cat Daddy Keir be up to the complex job of managing relations between Larry and his new housemate? Are there enough electrical sockets in Number 10 for all those Feliway plug-ins?

And how many of us will be taking more of an interest in this story than in anything that the new cabinet does?

Jojo was a cat who thought he was a loner. (Picture posed by model from pethatestoys.com.)

This makes your election more interesting than ours (which is slated to be one of the nastiest on record). Wish we had a White House cat.

Has there not been a successor to Socks?

Not a cat. We’ve had dogs though. It’s not the same (at least to cat lovers).

“Jojo was a cat who thought he was a loner.” LOL Brilliant
I think the entire world should forgo government heads and let our cats lead governments. We ALL know they’d do a much, much, much better job of it.

Yes. And we’d only be taxed in cuddles and love.

Like most cats, Larry is a pragmatist and has managed to remain at # 10 much longer thana head of lettuce. Things will work out. And we ar4e happy that your election, at least, has ended sanely.

Yeah, but the least sane ones of the lot – the Reform party – are looming unreassuringly … 😬

Don’t you think moving a new Prime Minister with two dogs into 10, Downing Street would have been worse?
In addition, this Prime Minister, because is a cat person, is likely to do a better job than some former ones, isn’t he?

Oh yes, dogs would deffo have been worse. I think Boris Johnson got a new dog AFTER moving in, which was a bit weird (yet not surprising given what he’s like).

If Boris Johnson’s dog was a puppy, as Larry took part in its education, it wasn’t too horrible, was it?

To be honest, Larry is such a scrappy bruiser that he would have taken on any dog and ousted it. There are reports of him scrapping not only with the Foreign Office cat but also foxes and visiting sniffer dogs. He is not to be messed with!

Larry sounds like a mentor to Louis. Does the latter know him?

If they knew each other, the world would be a pile of burning rubble. Probably best that they don’t!

Maybe they’ll invite a cat psychologist like Jackson Galaxy and film an episode at 10, Downing Street, that’d be so much fun 🙂 I’m sure the entire country (or at least the smart people in the country) would want to watch it!

That is the most interesting fact I’ve heard or read about the elections in Britain. I hope we’ll learn more about the cohabitation od those two very important cats.

I think there was a survey somewhere which said British people had more faith in Larry than in either of the two main leaders!

Well, we know exactly what to expect with a cat. A non caring attitude, impossible demands, served with a look of undisguised scorn. So, we know how far we can trust cats. Plus, as Larry lives in the Prime Minister residence, we know who really rules… 🤣
