En haut comme en bas

The Smart Meter man came over on Monday. (Cat Daddy organised this; I don’t even know what a Smart Meter is.)

Cat Daddy cleared out all our coats from the under-stairs cupboard, to give him space to work, and left them on one of the living room sofas. And, naturellement, Louis Catorze took the opportunity to do this, whatever “this” is:

Yes, it was he who knocked those two jackets onto the floor.
For goodness’ sake.

He spent much of the morning, prior to our appointment, burrowing away like a little groundhog, disproving Jackson Galaxy’s* theory that cats are either tree dwellers or ground dwellers. Catorze, it seems, is both. Or perhaps, after deciding that he was the former, he simply forgot and then decided he was the latter. By the time this goes live, I imagine he will have forgotten that, too.

*In case you don’t know him, he’s a celebrity cat freak who makes naughty cats behave. Yes, we have asked him to come and fix Catorze. However, after reading Le Blog, he stopped returning our emails.

Anyway, here is the Sa Maj, having eventually made himself comfortable. At this point all we wanted was for him to stay here and let the Smart Meter man work in peace … (continued below) …

Smart Meter man: say your prayers.

He didn’t.

He slept in his coat fortress for a good hour, then sprang back to life the second he heard the voice of the Smart Meter man. At the time of drafting this post the little sod was following him around, whining like a heartbroken dog.

As ever, I’m shocked but not surprised.

  1. They love the “cave experience”. All my cats have loved doing exactly what Louis did. Xenia (H.I.M.) happens to have a preference for boxes from Lee-Valley ( tools), but will make do with Amazon.

  2. KitKat is a cave dweller; though she likes to sleep on the cat tree and explore high places, she will always choose a low place to hide in. But I have pictures of her burrowing into the cushions on the armchair much like this. I have no idea how she buries herself so effectively without disturbing said cushions, but I have to warn people to poke the chair before they try to sit on it, just in case she’s in there somewhere. (Not really a big deal since the chair is more decorative at this point lol.)

I’m really not surprised that His Maj saw this pile of coats as an offering. I mean, uh, a nest? After all, everything you own is actually his. 😂

  3. I totally understand Sa Maj for wanting to sleep in this comfy pile of coats and furs, what a delight 🙂 When I was young and still cared about the look of my furniture, I had placed a blanket on top of my sofa to prevent my cats from scratching the poor thing to death. Sosso, a tiny kitty (who sadly passed in 2013), loved to sleep on that sofa under the blanket, with the unfortunate result that my guests and I often sat on her by mistake! Miss Penny hates to be covered by anything so she’s definitely not a “cave girl” 😉

    1. I somehow imagined Miss Penny as a treetop dweller! (And yes, I know it’s weird that I’ve had that thought about her!)

Sosso is a most excellent name. What does it mean or is it just a nice sound?

  4. I read the post about Sosso. The symptoms seem like it might have been a saddle thrombus blood clot.- In which case it was not anyone’s fault – if that helps her heartbroken owner.
